Job description

The School of Accounting, Economics, and Finance seeks to appoint suitably qualified applicants to the permanent staff who will contribute actively to the training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Economics and to build the knowledge base of the discipline through teaching, research, academic leadership and mentoring and community engagement. Administration of certain teaching activities within the discipline is also required. Specialised research and teaching experience in any areas of economics will be considered, particularly Advanced Microeconomics, Development Economics, Maritime Economics,

Minimum requirements

Professor
• A relevant doctoral degree;
• Minimum of ten years teaching in the discipline at a higher education institution;
• A current and sustained research publication record in peer-reviewed accredited journals appropriate for this level;
• Successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD levels;
• Evidence of attracting external research funds;
• Evidence of strong academic leadership.

Associate Professor:
• A relevant doctoral degree;
• Five years of experience in either teaching/lecturing/research or industry experience in the relevant field or discipline, at least three of which must be in Post-Graduate supervision or mentoring of junior research staff;
• Evidence of excellence as a researcher within the discipline;
• Track record of successful research supervision of Masters and PhD candidates;
• Leadership in Teaching and Learning and/or Research.

Senior Lecturer:
• Relevant doctoral degree;
• Minimum of three years teaching experience in the discipline at a higher education institution;
• Evidence of excellence as a researcher within the discipline;
• Track record of successful research supervision of Masters and/or PhD candidates;

Lecturer:
• A relevant Master’s degree (The successful candidate will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of date of assumption of duty);
• Experience in teaching within the discipline at a tertiary level.
All candidates should demonstrate effective communication skills.
Short-listed candidates will be required to make a presentation at the interview.
