Job description

  • The UKZN Teaching and Learning Office (UTLO) invites applications from a high performing project manager to specifically manage our Siyaphumelela Project 3.0 for two years only.
  • In furtherance of some of UTLO’s mandates, the successful candidate will collaborate with academics, researchers, professional services staff and students across the university to help create supportive, adaptable and innovative learning environments.
  • Specifically, the successful candidate will be accountable for managing, implementing and monitoring of action research for Siyaphumelela Project 3.0.
  • The project is entitled Towards student-centred integration of evidence-based practices: Designing, implementing and testing interventions for student access and success.

 

The incumbent will report to the project’s principal investigator and co-principal investigators to execute this externally funded university-wide research project.

Minimum requirements

  • Have a master’s degree (full research) in the social sciences, management, business administration, or finance fields.
  • Have at least 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in research or academic settings or other broad-based organisation.
  • Two years of supervisory experience in project management.
  • Possess knowledge of and experience in qualitative and quantitative research, academic writing and report-writing skills.
  • Be able to work independently and as a team member to achieve specified goals and objectives in a fast-paced multi-stakeholder environment.
  • Support research planning, ethical clearance protocols, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, drawing inferences and conclusions.
  • Maintain proper documentation, data tracking, and retrievable archiving of research inputs, activities, outputs and outcomes with relevant indicators
  • Use research results to write reports, papers and reviews and present findings to relevant stakeholders – orally and in writing.
  • Exhibit verbal and written communication skills, including editorial competencies.
  • Apply monitoring and evaluation protocols
  • Possess project and financial management experience in a higher education or similar broad-based environment.
  • Exercise sound financial management and governance in compliance with prevailing university and/or donor policies, guidelines and procedures
  • Demonstrate competence in computer software packages such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations, including general business computer literacy.
  • Be able to work with internal organisational stakeholders across all levels of the University, including all four colleges and selected University departments as well as with external stakeholders.
  • Plan, organise and conduct workshops and seminars related to the Siyaphumelela Project 3.0, including arrangement of training in action research.
