Introduction
The Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship will be responsible for overseeing the innovation strategy and culture across the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN). A proven Institutional builder, she/he will be responsible for setting up and leading the University’s Centre for Innovation, which will be a hub for ideation, innovation, and development of the University’s projects and programs. The Director is a catalyst for change, bridging the gap between research and innovation at the UKZN. Preferably, a seasoned Executive who has held Leadership positions in some of the disciplines that form innovation including business, policy, investment management, academia, and science diplomacy.
Job description

The individual must have a deep theoretical grasp of innovation to lead the strategic thrust that will place the UKZN at the forefront of global South innovation models. She/he must show access to a strong network of national, continental, and global networks necessary to build coalitions of value. The UKZN’s Innovation Strategy aims to put the University at the centre of a paradigm that leverages innovation for development in a fast-changing global environment. As such the individual will lead the University to play a leading role in a Regional System of innovation, partnering with other Institutions, Government, and Industry.  Among the key performance indicators, this individual must develop an investment plan that contributes to the University’s financial sustainability.

Minimum requirements

  •         A relevant Master’s Degree
  •      At least 10 Years’ Experience, as a research and innovation specialist, with a substantive and proven track record as an authority in the field.
