Job description
- This role ensures that procurement processes adhere to the university’s policies and procedures and local and national regulations and reflect best practices while achieving cost efficiencies, fostering innovation, and upholding high ethical standards
- The Director will collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure efficient procurement operations and contribute to the university’s vision, mission and goals
Minimum requirements
- A relevant degree in supply chain management, business administration, or finance
- A Master’s degree in supply chain management, business administration, or finance
- At least 10 years of progressive procurement experience
- At least 5 years of experience in a senior management role
- Experience with managing large teams (at least 10 people)
Professional Qualifications:
- Member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS) OR Chartered Accountant South Africa – CA (SA)
Knowledge:
- Strong knowledge of procurement laws, regulations and best practices including keeping abreast with new developments and changes
- Proven track record of leading strategic procurement initiatives, change management, and implementing process improvements
- Excellent negotiation, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to build and lead diverse, high-performing teams

Benefits
Nature of appointment:
· Appointment into this role shall be for a period of five (5) years from the effective date of the appointment.
· On expiration of this first 5-year term, the appointment may be extended for a further 5-year term dependent on the incumbent’s satisfactory performance.
· In the case of applicants who are permanent staff members of UKZN, the successful applicant will return to a suitable substantive position at the end of this term of office.
· Appointment to this position will be on the January 2018 Conditions of Service and will be on the total remuneration package which is inclusive of benefits.
