Job description

The School of Health Sciences wishes to appoint an academic who will contribute actively to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, learning, research, and community engagement. The successful candidate will be required to perform some administrative work in addition to acting as module(s) coordinator.

Minimum requirements

Minimum Requirements (for both):

  • All applicants must have an undergraduate degree in Dietetics
  • A Master’s degree in the relevant discipline
  • Current registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Dietitian
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (especially, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)      
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as a Dietitian

Minimum Requirements for Lecturer

  • Experience in teaching and learning, and assessment practices in a relevant field at a tertiary institution;
  • Ability to make the necessary preparation and coordination of various teaching and examination schedules within the Discipline
  • Evidence of involvement in community engagement programs.

A successful candidate at the Lecturer level (without a PhD degree) will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of the date of assumption of duty.

 

Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer

  • A PhD degree in the relevant discipline;
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in Dietetics at a tertiary level;
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals (A minimum of five publications in peer-reviewed SAPSE-accredited journals);
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master's and/or PhD levels, appropriate for the level 
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team
