Job description

  • The School of Social Science seeks to appoint a senior lecturer in the discipline of Development Studies, who has a specialisation in Community Development.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to lecture undergraduates and postgraduate students (honours, PGDip, master’s & PhD) and assist in supervising and mentoring students; to contribute to the academic functions within the discipline of community development; and to actively participate in community engagement projects and in growing the academic standing of the discipline.

The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader: Development Studies

Minimum requirements

  • A PhD degree in Community Development and/or Development Studies or any cognate discipline.
  • Three (3) years working experience in either Teaching, Lecturing, Research or Industry (in the relevant field or discipline).
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD level appropriate for the level
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team
