Introduction
The SGBV Manager will be responsible for the implementation of a coherent strategic Gender Based Violence & Gender Diversity policy and programming framework in the University informed by evidence-based research; institutionalizing a zero-tolerance approach to SBGV and overseeing the coordination of all mechanisms and processes to address SGBV, harassment and discrimination throughout UKZN across the 5 campuses. A key part of the portfolio will be to provide advice to Management as well as to operationalize the implementation of a longer-term strategy which will include analyses of trends and assessment of additional structures (if any) needed to manage the University’s prevention and response to SGBV, and discrimination and harassment on the basis of gender identity.
Job description

  • This post will focus on driving impactful change in addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and promoting gender diversity at the University.
  • Key responsibilities include establishing accountability systems, strengthening prevention and support structures, revising procedures to close policy gaps, and improving data management and case tracking.
  • The role also involves handling confidential complaints, evaluating the effectiveness of existing initiatives, and providing strategic guidance across all colleges, schools, and campuses to foster a safer, more inclusive academic environment.

Minimum requirements

  • Master’s degree in any of the disciplines in the Humanities, Social Science or Law.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant professional experience, including experience in programme management, on projects or programmes related to sexual assault prevention and response or related field, of which 2 years must be in a supervisory/managerial position, preferably in a campus setting.
  • Knowledge of human rights and gender issues in development, particularly sexual and gender-based violence.
