Introduction
The School wishes to appoint a senior technician who will be expected to join the KwaZulu Natal Research Innovations and Sequencing Platform (KRISP), a research genomic center at UKZN. KRISP is an ISO15189:2012 accredited laboratory, authorized by SANAS to perform HIV drug resistance testing for clinical management.
Job description

  • In this position, an incumbent will play a key role in supporting the KRISP laboratory with conducting research and diagnostic tests to meet project deadlines and allocated turnaround times.

Minimum requirements

  • MSc in Virology / Microbiology or equivalent tertiary qualification
  • At least two year’s experience in HIV drug resistance genotyping (Sanger sequencing)
  • HPCSA-registered (Virology)

Essential requirements:

  • Good laboratory practice
  • Experience with ISO15189 accreditation

Responsibilities may include:

  • Preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and ensuring compliance with all aspects of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP)
  • Training and supervision of laboratory users
  • Maintenance of a Quality Assurance programme including Proficiency testing protocols

The post will report to the KRISP Head of Laboratory
