Job description

The University of KwaZulu-Natal is one of the top Universities in South Africa and amongst the top 500 Universities globally. The School is well established with a strong research profile and has a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students. The School has an active Biology programme with a strong research profile, and vibrant postgraduate research programmes.

 

The incumbent will be expected to contribute to teaching and research in Biology and other related disciplines on the Westville campus, as well as contribute towards  administration within the school. S/he will also be expected to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate curriculum development, supervise postgraduate students and promote interdisciplinary research across the Schools in the College. A strong background in molecular biology and/or plant physiology is essential.

 

Minimum requirements

Senior Lecturer:
·     A relevant PhD degree in Plant Molecular Biology or a related discipline.
·     Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level.
·     Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level.
·     A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at the Masters and/or PhD level appropriate for the level.
·     Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team.
 
Lecturer:
·     A relevant PhD degree in Plant Molecular Biology OR a Master’s degree in the relevant discipline, with evidence of submission of PhD for examination.
·     Experience in teaching in a relevant field at a tertiary institution.
·     Evidence of presentations, at national or international conferences.
·     Current research activity as evidenced by a publication in quality scientific journals.
