Job description
The mission of this position is strategic leadership for the planning, development, coordination and implementation, evaluation, operational management and administration of all University of KwaZulu-Natal health services, wellness and mental health programs. Inclusive of Health Services, HIV/AIDS Services, Occupational Health, and Health Promotion.
The position has responsibility for effective team collaboration and service integration and consequent smooth, student-centered delivery of programmes and services to students and staff, across the University’s five campuses.
The incumbent will report to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the College of Health Sciences.
Minimum requirements
- PhD or Medical Doctorate degree or in a related field (e.g. public health, clinical/applied psychology, nursing, family medicine)
- Registration with the appropriate Health Professions Council.
- At least eight (8) years of relevant leadership experience of which at least five (5) years should be in a health care and/or mental health care setting with a proven record of achievement and success; and direct experience in the management of an organisation;
- Experience as a clinician in an Institution of Higher learning is beneficial and preferred.
- Significant experience in building consensus and influencing decisions in a diverse multi-disciplinary environment;
- Ability to work as part of a management team dedicated to collaboration across levels of management, levels of care and across disciplines and achieving the University’s vision of becoming a Health Promoting University;
- Knowledge of and ability to accurately interpret South African laws, Department of Health policies, and UKZN rules and regulations;
- A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, and to work effectively and harmoniously with students, colleagues, staff, and others;
- A demonstrated commitment to the continuous improvement of health and wellness for students and ability to create an environment conducive to the development of student services innovations;
- Ability to conduct institutional research;
- Demonstrated effective management of personnel and budgets;
- Knowledge of safety issues related to student health services, equipment and facilities;
- Knowledge of Grant writing and of Fund raising.
