Introduction
The Macroeconomics Research Unit (MRU) in the School of Commerce, College of Law and Management Studies, is seeking to recruit a highly motivated candidate for a two-year internship program to gain hands-on experience in managing its administrative functions and ensuring the unit's research goals and objectives are met.
Job description

  • The intern's role is vital for the smooth running of the unit
  • Their duties may include organizing both internal and external events; managing the unit's projects; acting as a central point of communication with external parties
  • Providing administrative support to MRU researchers on- and off-campus; scheduling and attending meetings
  • Organizing staff travel and accommodation requirements
  • Taking minutes at all MRU committee meetings; dealing with suppliers and ensuring the office stationery storage unit is well stocked; and any other duties that may be assigned to the incumbent by the relevant authorities
  • This role offers comprehensive training, mentorship, and opportunities to develop valuable skills in research administration

Minimum requirements

  • Matric
  • An Honours or Masters degree in Administration or Economics (specializing in Macroeconomics)
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • A high level of proficiency in MS Teams and Zoom
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in carrying out administrative duties in a research unit of comparable size will be an added advantage

Communication will be limited to short-listed candidates, who may be required to do a presentation at the interview.
