Job description

The Discipline of Family Medicine wishes to appoint an academic who will contribute actively to the training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students in Family Medicine and in the distributed learning and training platforms to build the knowledge base of the discipline through teaching, research and clinical services. Administration of certain teaching activities within the discipline is also required. The candidates will be required to assist with Discipline administration and may be required to assist with School and College administration. The academic designation/salary grade of the successful incumbent will be determined during the selection process in line with the University Senate-approved criteria for academic promotions which is available on the HR Vacancies Website –https://hr.ukzn.ac.za/forms/

Minimum requirements

  • MBChB or equivalent PLUS qualification as a Family Physician (MMed(FamMed)) or equivalent)
  • Registration with the HPCSA as Family Physician
  • Two years’ experience in clinical service delivery in the relevant field or discipline.
  • At least one-year experience in teaching for appointment at Lecturer level  and pursuing doctoral studies in Family Medicine
  • Teaching, service, administration and research will constitute the major requirements, as applicable in the job profile
  • Computer literacy
  • Valid driver’s licence

A successful candidate at the Lecturer level will be expected to complete a PhD within 5 years of the date of assumption of duty.
