PROFESSOR/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR/SENIOR LECTURER (CHEMICAL ENGINEERING/MASS TRANSFER AND SEPARATION PROCESSES)

Job description
This position is in the specialist area of Mass Transfer and Separation Processes, covering fundamental concepts, separations by phase, the use of membranes and mechanical separation techniques, amongst others. The incumbent will be required to teach undergraduate courses, develop independent research programmes, supervise research and undertake administrative duties.
The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader Discipline: Chemical Engineering.
Minimum requirements
All applicants must have a BSc (Eng) degree in Chemical Engineering. In addition, the following apply to each of the levels indicated below.
Professor:
· A PhD in an appropriate area
· Evidence of excellent teaching experience and leadership in curriculum development at the tertiary level, related to the area of specialization.
· Excellent and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level, and related to the area of specialization.
· Excellent and sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, appropriate for the level.
· Excellent and sustained track record of successful attraction of external research grants.
· Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the Department / School/ College/ University, which includes mentorship and coaching.
· Evidence of national and international recognition in the area of specialization within the discipline.
Associate Professor:
· A PhD in an appropriate area
· Evidence of appropriate teaching experience and curriculum development experience at the tertiary level, related to the area of specialization.
· Evidence of current and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level, and related to the area of specialization.
· A sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and PhD level, appropriate for the level.
· Evidence of sustained and successful attraction of external research grants.
· Evidence of national and/or international recognition in the area of specialization within the discipline.
Senior Lecturer:
· PhD degree in an appropriate area OR a masters degree in an appropriate area and Professional Registration with ECSA.
· Evidence of appropriate teaching experience at tertiary level, related to the area of specialization.
· Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level, and related to the area of specialization.
· A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and/or PhD level appropriate for the level.
· Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team.
Candidates with Professional Registration with ECSA will be considered favourably.
