Job description

The following post is available in the Aerospace Systems Research Institute (ASRI) within the School of Engineering.
 
Composites Structural Design and Fluid Reticulation Engineer
·  Design aerospace propellant fluid reticulation systems, including generation of P&ID drawings for complex, pressurised systems
·  Design, manufacture and assess the performance of light-weight, optimized composite structures
·  Conduct and supervise Research and Development (R&D) activities for specialised mechanical components, including pressure vessels
·  Conduct finite element analyses on structural components
·  Adhere to recognized standards in design and manufacturing processes
 
The incumbent will plan and execute tests of rockets, engines and components, undertake the research and development of rocketry systems according to best practice, including novel technologies. S/he will publish project reports and academic papers documenting progress, manage engineering projects, teams, budgets and suppliers and all procurement processes and coordinate logistics of manufactured parts, S/he will be involved in forecasting project costs, and author funding and grant proposals. Further s/he will implement safety and quality control processes and archive technical data, plan and execute contract research, participate in outreach and public relations activities
 
The incumbents will report to Professor Michael Brooks of the Aerospace Systems Research Institute. 

Minimum requirements

·    BSc Eng or BEng degree in Mechanical Engineering AND
·    MSc Eng or MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering
·    3 years of relevant experience in research and development of leading-edge engineering technologies related to aerospace systems and components, with demonstrated experience in the areas described above
