Job description
This position is in the area of mechanical design, and/or mechatronics, instrumentation and control. The incumbent will be required to teach undergraduate courses, conduct practicals, and carry out administrative duties within the Discipline in one or more of these areas. S/he will also be required to conduct research and supervise undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in one of the associated areas of Mechanical Engineering. The incumbent may also be expected to perform administrative and coordinating roles within the department in support of the academic programme.
The incumbent will report to the Academic Leader: Mechanical Engineering.
Minimum requirements
- A PhD in an appropriate area OR a Master’s degree in relevant discipline and Professional Registration with ECSA
- Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at tertiary level or relevant mentorship in an industrial or research environment
- Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level
- A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and or PhD level appropriate for the level
- Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team
- A PhD in an appropriate area or engineering OR Master’s degree in the relevant discipline, with evidence of submission of PhD for examination
- Capable of registering as a candidate or Professional Engineer with ECSA
- Experience in teaching in a relevant field at tertiary institution or relevant mentorship in an industrial or research environment
- Current research activity as evidenced by a publication in quality scientific journals
- Evidence of presentations at national or international conference.
