Introduction
The primary responsibility of the role of Senior Systems Consultant is to provide high-level analytical and technical support to the university’s information technology infrastructure and services. The department of Information and Communication Services is client centric and team members are expected to work as a singular team, being available to provide skilled support as required.
Job description

  • The Senior Systems Consultant is responsible for supporting new and existing ICS applications, works closely with other ICS and University functional area staff in establishing requirements, evaluating, designing, implementing, and supporting_ network infrastructure including LAN, MAN, WAN, wireless, VPN, content networking, Audio-visual and server management
  • The Senior Systems Consultant troubleshoots and resolves complex technical problems and assists the Principal Systems Consultant with day-to-day operational needs
  • They should have the ability to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, the ability to work effectively within a team structure as well as within an unsupervised environment
  • They will supervise less experienced system consultants and administrators; identify system performance issues and oversee correct resolution of these problems

Minimum requirements

  • A relevant degree in Information Technology OR a 4-year Diploma in Information Technology, with a Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or Microsoft Certified Engineer certification (MCSE)
  • 4 years relevant experience in networking, server, and application provisioning in a large and complex heterogeneous Information Technology organization
  • Hands on experience in installation, configuration and troubleshooting of network operating systems such as, Microsoft Servers
  • A good understanding of SQL data bases, enterprise firewalls, web servers, email and Linux servers
  • Experience in installation and configuration of Cisco Networking switches, wireless technologies (Wi-Fi), IP camera and surveillance technologies, access control technologies, audio-visual and Crestron integration and IP enabled devices
  • A valid and unendorsed drivers’ license
