Introduction
The Legal Services Section is within the Registrar Division and provides a service to the whole university for both the professional and academic sectors.
The Additional Proctor will be required to provide Professional Proctor services to the university community on student discipline matters.
The incumbent will report to the Director of Legal Services.
Job description
- The successful job incumbent will be required to provide professional proctor services to the university community in assessing student discipline matters for the application of conciliation or prosecution of student disciplinary matters, providing Legal advice on student disciplinary matters
- Co-managing the student discipline office with the current Proctor; benchmarking student discipline rules and procedures and advising on amendments thereof
- Consulting with university structures and constituencies regarding disciplinary rules and providing education and training where relevant
Minimum requirements
- Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree or equivalent legal professional qualification.
- Admitted practising Attorney or Advocate
- Minimum of 5 years of practical legal experience, post admission as practising Attorney/Advocate and wide knowledge of South African law, university academic requirements, and student disciplinary processes.
- Computer literate and experience in MS Office.
