Introduction
The Corporate Relations Division seeks to appoint an innovative professional to the position of Head: Brand Management and Marketing. The Head of Brand Management and Marketing will lead the development, promotion, and protection of the UKZN brand across its five campuses. This position serves as the custodian of the UKZN brand, ensuring the consistent application of the university’s brand identity, manages licensing agreements, oversees corporate gifts, and directs the establishment and operations of the university’s corporate shop. The role is critical in enhancing UKZN’s visibility, generating revenue, and fostering stakeholder engagement while effectively managing staff within the unit to achieve strategic objectives.
Job description

  • Brand Management and Multi-Campus Coordination
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy for UKZN

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Brand Management, Business Administration, or a related field
  • Postgraduate qualification will be advantageous
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in brand management, licensing, or retail management, preferably in a multi-campus or complex organisational environment
  • Experience in higher education environment is essential.
  • Proven expertise in managing trademarks, licensing agreements, and corporate merchandise.
  • Experience in retail operations, including inventory and pricing strategies

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong knowledge of brand management principles, licensing processes, and intellectual property laws
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills
  • Proficiency in marketing tools, digital platforms, and data analysis
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Strategic thinking with strong business acumen
  • Ability to analyse data, insights and research to inform strategy
