  • Contribute actively to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and learning, research and community engagement and conduct administration

Minimum requirements

General Minimum Requirements for all levels:

  • All applicants must have a Bachelor’s degree in Optometry
  • Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as an Optometrist
  • Computer literacy in Microsoft Office packages (especially Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license AND
  • Minimum of 2 years clinical experience as an Optometrist

Minimum Requirements for Full Professor:

  • A PhD Degree in Optometry
  • Evidence of excellent teaching experience and leadership in curriculum development in a relevant field at the tertiary level
  • Excellent and sustained publication of independent research in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level
  • Excellent and sustained record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master's and PhD levels, appropriate for the level
  • Excellent and sustained track record of successful award of external research grants
  • Evidence of strong and sustained academic leadership within the Department / School / College / University, which includes mentorship and coaching AND
  • Evidence of national and international recognition in a research area within the discipline

Minimum Requirements for Associate Professor:

  • A PhD Degree in Optometry;
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience and curriculum development experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication of independent research in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level
  • A sustained track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master's and PhD levels, appropriate for the level
  • Evidence of sustained and successful award of external research grants AND
  • Evidence of national/or international recognition in a research area within the discipline

Minimum Requirements for Senior Lecturer:

  • A PhD Degree in Optometry
  • Evidence of appropriate teaching experience in a relevant field at the tertiary level
  • Evidence of current and sustained research publication record in quality scientific journals, appropriate for the level
  • A track record of successful supervision of postgraduate students at Master's and/or PhD levels, appropriate for the level AND
  • Demonstrated ability to apply for research grants, either as the Principal Investigator or as a member of a team
 

Appointment to this post will be on the January 2018 Conditions of service, where applicable. The total remuneration package offered includes benefits.
