The SCHOOL OF MEDICINE wishes to appoint one academic with relevant experience in biostatistics who will be based in the Discipline of Public Health. The appointee will be required to support the teaching activities of the discipline of public health (notably for first and second year medical students, as well as some elements of the Masters in Public Health) and also to be a member of the College of Health Sciences (CHS) Biostatistics Unit (BSU), which involves one-on-one consultation with a substantial number of diverse student projects within the College of Health Sciences, as well as the development and facilitation of group level workshops, and the creation of downloadable documents and tools for BSU clients.
Minimum requirements
Minimum Requirements for consideration:
- Applicants must have a Doctoral degree in biostatistics/statistics or equivalent field like data science;
- Applicants must have practical experience with biostatistics/statistics consulting in an academic / research/ industry setting, or experience in supervising postgraduate students working on projects with data-science / statistics as the primary component.
- Applicants must have advanced skills in performing statistical analysis and data management operations in standard widely used platforms (for example, Excel, R, SPSS, Stata)
- Applicants must have experience in biomedical research.
Essential Skills
- Applicants must have good written and verbal communication skills.
- Be able to independently handle most consultations with diverse student projects, though there is support within the biostats unit to share experiences and ideas, and receive some mentorship.
