Job description

The Teaching and Learning Unit is seeking to appoint an individual for the position of Writing Place Coordinator.  The appointment is for a three-year, full-time contract with benefits. The Writing Place Coordinator plays a critical role in managing the daily operations of the Writing Place and ensuring that it provides quality writing assistance to students and academic staff. The Coordinator must also have an excellent command of spoken and written and read English, proficiency in using academic writing software and digital tools to support tutoring and resource development as well as a good understanding of academic literacy issues in the South African context. Proven experience in editing and publishing together with; a Masters degree in English/ Language Education/ Applied Language studies or a related field focusing on academic writing and rhetoric will be an advantage.

Minimum requirements

  • A Honors degree in English/ Language Education/ Applied Language studies or  a related field with a focus on academic writing and rhetoric.
  • Minimum two years experience in providing support within a writing centre or similar academic support setting with a demonstrated ability to support students in various aspects of writing, including essays, research papers, and dissertations.
  • Minimum two years experience undertaking research and administering, extracting and analysing data; with experience in preparing reports and presenting results.
