Job description

The Digital Media Specialist is responsible for developing and managing digital content strategies that enhance UKZN’s online presence, strengthen brand awareness, and engage key stakeholders. The incumbent will create, curate, and optimise digital content across multiple platforms, ensuring alignment with UKZN’s strategic communication objectives and corporate identity.

The incumbent will report to the Manager: Corporate Communication & Marketing.

Minimum requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Media Studies, Public Relations, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in digital media management, content creation, paid digital advertising, or digital marketing, preferably within a higher education or corporate environment.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Proven track record of growing digital and social media audiences and increasing engagement through creative content and targeted campaigns.
  • Strong proficiency in social media platforms, scheduling tools, and analytics software (e.g., Meta Business Suite, Hootsuite, Google Analytics).
  • Experience with graphic design and video editing tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite) is an advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Creative mindset with the ability to develop innovative content that resonates with diverse audiences.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • High level of professionalism, discretion, and cultural awareness in online interactions.
  • Strong analytical and project management skills.
  • Must be comfortable working on established platforms while staying up to date with new digital media trends and emerging technologies.
