UKZN Press (The Press) is a publishing institution within the University of KwaZulu-Natal, situated on the Pietermaritzburg campus. The Press is a quality publisher of scholarship and general expertise books for both academic and general readers. Our range includes social, political, economic, and military history, gender, natural sciences, African literature and selected literary works.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a proven track record in administrative support, contracts management, and rights coordination, preferably within the book publishing sector. The incumbent must be highly organised, detail-oriented, proactive, and capable of working independently while managing multiple deadlines.
Minimum requirements
- A relevant qualification in Administration / Management / or a related field.
- Proficiency in spreadsheet and word-processing applications.
- Experience in contracts administration, including adapting standard templates in line with agreed terms, uploading, tracking and maintaining contract records, and ensuring compliance, and liaising with related internal and external stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of publishing rights processes and agreements, including the ability to coordinate, administer, and implement rights deals concluded by senior management.
- Experience in office administration, including minute-taking and record-keeping.
- At least two (2) years’ experience in the book publishing industry.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience coordinating rights agreements (e.g. permissions, licensing, subsidiary rights).
- At least two (2) years’ experience in the book publishing industry.
